1、 Where can I find the shelf life of wet wipes? Two annotation methods
There are generally two types of labeling on the packaging of wet wipes: production date+shelf life or expiration date.
1. Production date+shelf life
Example: Production date 2026.05.10, shelf life of 2 years → means that it can be used normally without opening before 2028.05.10.
2. Limited use date (valid until)
Example: Limited use date: May 10, 2028.05, which means it must be used up before that date.

Key distinction: unopened shelf life vs. opened shelf life
This is the easiest point to confuse!
The shelf life indicated on the packaging refers to the shelf life under unopened and properly stored conditions.
Once the wet wipes are opened, the sealing barrier is damaged, moisture evaporates, and bacteria easily enter. It is recommended to use them within 1-3 months.
-Baby hand and mouth wipes: Use within one month after opening first
-Wet toilet paper and household cleaning wipes: It is recommended not to exceed 3 months after opening
>Even if the outer packaging states a 2-year shelf life, this long shelf life is no longer applicable after opening.
2、 Can expired wet wipes still be used?
❌ Not recommended for use on human skin, especially on the face, hands, baby skin, and private parts
The internal moisturizing and anti-corrosion systems of expired wet wipes will deteriorate, which can bring several major risks:
1. Microbial exceedance: Preservatives are ineffective, and non-woven fabric soaking solution is prone to breeding bacteria and mold. Wiping the skin can easily cause redness, itching, and allergies, with a higher risk for delicate baby skin.
2. Liquid deterioration: The original solution of wet wipes may become sour, have a strange odor, turn yellow, and become cloudy, which can irritate the skin.
3. Non woven fabric aging: Fibers are prone to shedding debris and may remain on the skin, mouth, and nose when wiped.
✅ Expired wipes can only be downgraded for use (only under the premise of no mold or odor): wipe non human contact objects such as floors, shoes, countertops, and the outer wall of garbage bins.
⚠️ Once the wet wipes have an odor, mold, or yellow or cloudy liquid, discard them directly and do not use them in any situation.
3、 Storage conditions that affect the shelf life of wet wipes (brand customers can place them in the product description)
The labeling of shelf life on wet wipes packaging is based on standardized storage:
1. Store in a cool and dry place, avoiding long-term direct sunlight. High temperatures can accelerate the decomposition of preservatives and the deterioration of the original solution;
2. Do not expose the wet wipes to direct sunlight in the car for a long time, as high temperatures in the car during the summer can significantly shorten their actual lifespan;
3. After each use, be sure to stick the sealing tape tightly to reduce the entry of air;
4. Do not place it in a damp environment, as it may cause the outer packaging to become damp and breed mold.
4、 Standard shelf life reference for different categories of wet wipes (OEM reference)
>Based on the formula and anti-corrosion system, for general reference only. The final product testing report and packaging labeling shall prevail
-Hand and mouth wipes, baby wipes: unopened regular 2 years
-Wet toilet paper: unopened regular 2-3 years
-Ordinary object cleaning wipes: unopened for 2-3 years
-Sanitary disinfectant wipes: generally 2 years, with faster decay of disinfectant ingredients and stricter shelf life requirements
>OEM reminder: OEM customized formulas have different shelf lives, and packaging labels must be consistent with the product stability test report. The shelf life cannot be arbitrarily written.
